3/11/2023 0 Comments Guano apes concert 2013But now we said: ”This is beautiful, let’s just stay with it.” When we came back after the long break, we had open ears and open hearts for everybody and we are carefull listening to the influences each of us brought to the band. She showed us some electronic stuff and asked if we can use that or shall we replace that with some guitars like we usually did in the old records. So do we, but we have never done that on the old records. She’s been living in Berlin for the last 8 years and she’s been listening to a lot of electronic stuff. Also the producer, Jon Shumann, helped us a lot in trying to bring together the electronic influences. We have the same energy but we focus on it in a different way. It’s rather the matter of playing guitar, riffs. We wanted to preserve that beauty because I think we’ve written some of the best songs for the new album than we ever did and they shine brighter because they are not so drowned in the energy. We had the feeling that they are drowned in the energy and it harms the beauty of the songs. When people talk about old records, they usually refer to the big songs like ‘Big in Japan’ or ‘Open Your Eyes’. The only thing we realised is that we don’t want to repeat what we have done with the old records. Who’s the idea to change the style? Or you just met together and.?Įxactly, we met and we didn’t talk too much about music. And it’s more electro-music or I’d say, electro-rock. Yes, you changed your music, the website, even the title is shorter than the previous ones. So if you want the old songs, you can listen to the old records and then you mix it up with the new records or you come to the concert and we have a nice blend of all songs from the old records and from the new album. You realise it has a very nice blend. You can’t really tell from each era the songs are. I think those fans couldn’t figure it out how ‘Bel Air’ fit in to the old songs and old style. We don’t want to repeat what we’ve been doing 10 years ago. But if you want that, we already did that. We got the feedback that some fans are missing the old crossover style. I think some of the fans are a little bit irritated about the new album. What’s the people reaction to the new songs? It was raining and it was still warm and people were having something like a big shower and they had a great time. It was not only the biggest festival we ever did it was really amazing. So we are really glad to come to Poland to Woodstock. As the gig in Poland was cancelled so we stayed in Berlin. We were in Italy and we had a flight to Berlin and then to Poland and the next day to Amsterdam. We couldn’t find the right date for that, then we had a date and it was cancelled because the agency, which wanted to organise it, bankrupt. So we have great memories of Poland but we never managed to come back again. There were like 150 people in front of the record store. They handed us to the Gold Record Award and we had the very first signing session in our career. I just remember some club shows When we came for the first time, we played in Warsaw. We’ve been not much to Poland in the past years. Henning Rumenapp, the guitarist of the band, did it for you.Īre you happy that you are in Poland again? Last time you’ve been here on Woodstock 2 years ago. Why is ‘Bel Air’ so controversial? How did it happen that one of their hits could have never been released? And what’s the future of Guano Apes? If you can’t answer those questions, don’t worry. HENNING RUMENAPP FROM GUANO APES: “IT’S STILL CROSSOVER”
